Brookbank Road
Lewisham London
Estimated Construction - £1m

The project utilizes a brownfield site in Lewisham London. It slopes sharply uphill along the length of the front elevation.

Our approach is to reflect the rhythm of the neighbouring Victorian terraces in the new housing. It provides 5 new single aspect maisonettes and 5 new flats in what appears to be 5 separate houses. Each dwelling has either their own private garden or roof terrace to the rear where overlooking of other properties is minimized.

The houses have staggered floor plates so that they step up the sloping site gradually. This reduces the height of the buildings and allows the massing on the site to echo the roofline of the surrounding terraces.

The roofs of each house are planted with a no-maintenance living 'green roof' that provides a special selection of sedums, grasses and wild flowers that attract the Camberwell blue butterfly whose numbers are in decline in urban areas. Each roof also incorporates nesting boxes for birds.
