The challenge here was how best to create new accommodation for a Grade II listed building in a land-locked site that was overlooked on all sides. Our approach was to build over the remainder of the site, but to carve out lightwells and courtyards to create intimate outdoor spaces. All of the perimeter walls were full height glass with reflective floors that made the outside gardens merge into the indoor spaces. We also planted a meadow on the roof for the enjoyment of the neighbours.
