The project explores how a rural site on which sits a single existing office building can be sensitively extended to provide additional office space.

The site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and so it is important that the design solution seeks to considerately reflect the wonderful landscape beyond.

Our solution is to use the sharp slope of the site to part bury the building within the hillside. So from the roadside the new building will appear to be only a single storey high. At the rear, the building expresses its true form in a full height glass façade with views across the valley.

The form and external materials of the building are kept simple to echo the detached weatherboarded barns that are evident in the neighbouring Sussex hamlet.
