New Entrance Building
Michael Faraday Primary School
Southwark London
Construction Cost - £37k
We worked with Michael Faraday Primary School to detailed design and construct a new entrance building from King span Tek's SIP system. The main body of the building going up in just 3 days. Cladding was then utilizing artwork and images created from the Playscape workshops to make a 4m high light-box as a welcome building for parents and pupils within the playground.
A new building for the school that provides an identity for the school as well as additional accomodation. The building is constructed from a highly insulated panel system and innovatively clad in semi-transparent printed panels, providing a glowing "lantern" for the playground.
Together with an artist, photographer and dance tutor we have worked with the children and encouraged them to look at dance, movement, play, materials, structures and ways of investigating objects, models, pictures and performances which express their own aspirations for their space. They in turn have helped design this building and other elements for their playground, including a giant Camera Obscura. The buildings are flexible and demountable, constructed using sustainable materials and incorporating highly energy efficient building techniques.
